Max Cullen wurde am 29. April1940 in Wellington, NSW geboren. 1941 ging die ganzen Familie nach Lawson, in den Blue Mountains. Bevor Max Schauspieler wurde arbeitete er bei verschiedenen Zeitungen und Magazinen in Sydney. 1965 begann seine große Zeit als Schauspieler. Bei uns bekannt sind die Filme “Shotgun Wedding” von 1993, hier spielte er Rev. Arthur Hickey, “Lightning Jack” ist aus dem Jahr 1994, dort war er der Bart und “Spider and Rose”. Für die Rolle erhielt    er 1994 den AFI Award  als bester Schauspieler. Max erhielt ebenfalls einen Logie Award.

Neben Filmarbeiten war er auch ständig mit Theateraufführungen beschäftigt. Er unternahm Theatertourneen durch ganz Australien und spielte auch in London. Max war regelmäßig seit 1972 in ungeheuer vielen TV-Serien und TV-Filmen zu sehen: “Skippy”, “Carsons Law”, “A Country Practice”, “Police Rescue”.

Auf Channel Nine war er als Reporter für RPA, einer Medizindokumentation tätig. Als solcher wurde er zur Stimme Australiens gewählt.

Die Serie “Die fliegenden Ärzte” machten ihn ab 1985 weltbekannt. Er war in der Serie als Garagenbesitzer Hurtle Morrison mit dabei. Hurtle war ein herrliches Schlitzohr und später übertrug er die Garage seiner Nichte Emma und zog sich nach und nach aus der Serie zurück. Dennoch war er bis 1988 dabei. In den bekannten Serien wie “Skippy”, “Homicide”, “Division 4”, “Riptide”, “Matlock Police” war er mehrmals dabei. Auch “Police Rescue”, “The Damnation of Harvey McHugh”, “McLeod´s Daughters” 2001 und “All Saints” 2004 gingen nicht ohne Max Cullen.

Er wirkte in “In a savage land” mit und spielte am Sydneyer Ensemble Theater in “Sunshine Boys”. 1999 hat er in der Mini-Serie “Kings in Grass Castels” eine Rolle. 2000 stand er zusammen mit Max Gilles im Ensemble Theatre sehr erfol- greich auf der Bühne in “A Couple of Blaguards” von Frank und Malachy McCourt.

Das Stück erzählt das bewegte Leben der gebürtigen irischen Autoren. In der Rolle des Wally sah man ihn in der Komödie “The Nugget”. 2004 war er als Gerry Jackson in der TV-Serie “Love my way” zu sehen. Im TV-Krimi “Black Jack: In  the money” spielte er die Rolle des Howard. Der Film “Jindabyne” stand auf seinem Plan. 2007 ist er in der Serie “Love my way” erneut als Gerry Jackson in  21 Folgen zu sehen. In “December Boys” steht er als der Narrator / Adult Misty  vor der Kamera und als Old Drunk ist er 2008  im Film “Australia” zu sehen.

2009 wird Max als Travis Hudson in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” erschossen. Im gleichen Jahr sah man ihn in verschiedenen Rollen in “All saints”. Und auch Max liess sich 2009 in “City Homicide” als Ray Stairmont blicken.

2010 stellte sich Max dem Publikum in der Rolle des Charles im Kurzfilmdrama “Your own medicine”. 2011 spielte er ein Medium in “The Ghost”.

Auch 2012  war Max in verschiedenen Rollen zu sehen u. a. in dem Kurzfilmen “Love on the Airwaves”, “My mind's own melody”, “Dear Life” sowie als Owl Eyes in dem   US-Drama “The Great Gatsby” - in dem unter anderem Stars wie Leonardo di Caprio und Tobey Maguire mitwirken.

2013 spielte Max am Street Theatre Canberra die Rolle des Journalisten Lennie Lower in dem Stück “How to be (or not to be)”. Max war in einer kleinen Neben- rolle auch in dem Kurzdrama “Unspoken” zu sehen. 2014 spielte er neben Andrew in den Serien “Rake” und “Devil`s Playground”.

A marvellous slit ear was Hurtle    and he assigned the garage to his niece Emma later and moved back himself after and after from the series. He nevertheless took part to 1988. He was in the known series like "Skippy", "Homicide", "Division 4", "Riptide", "Matlock Police" repeatedly. "Policy Rescue", "The Damnation of Harvey McHugh", "McLeod's Daughters" in 2001 and "All Saints" 2004 did not go without Max Cullen either.

He worked with in "In a savage land" and played at the Sydney Ensemble Theatre in "Sunshine Boys". He had a part in the mini-series "King in Grass of Castles" in 1999. He was in the Ensemble Theatre very successfully together with Max Gilles on the stage in "A Couple of Blaguards" of Frank and Malachy McCourt in 2000. The piece tells the eventful life of the Irish authors by birth. In Wally's part one saw him in the comedy "The Nugget". He could be seen as Gerry Jackson in the  TV series "Love my way" in 2004. In the TV thriller "Black Jack: In the money"   he played the part  of the Howard. The film "Jindabyne" stood on his plan. He could be seen as Gerry Jackson in the series "Love my way" once more in 2007    in 21 episodes. In "December Boys" Max stood as the Narrator / Adult Misty in front of the camera and as Old Drunk we have seen him in the film "Australia" in 2008.

2009 Max became shot in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" as Travis Hudson. In the same year one saw him in different parts in "All Saints". And also Max let see himself in "City Homicide" as Ray Stairmont in 2009.

In 2010, Max put the audience in the role of Charles in the Short Film Drama   “Your own medicine”. 2011 he played a medium in “The Ghost”. In 2012 Max  was seen in various roles including in the short films: "Love on the Airwaves",  "My mind's own melody", "Dear Life", as well as Owl Eyes in the US-drama   "The Great Gatsby" - in which, among other stars like Leonardo Di Caprio and Tobey Maguire play a part.

2013 played Max on the Street Theatre Canberra, the role of the journalist Lennie Lower in the piece “How to be (or not to be)”. Max was in a small supporting role in the short drama "Unspoken" too see. In 2014 he starred alongside Andrew in the series "Rake" and "Devil's Playground".
